Sodium chloride solution is used to adjust ionic strength, maintain osmotic balance, and prepare saline buffers across molecular biology, microbiology, and biochemistry workflows.

Applications include dilution of samples and reagents, washing steps in nucleic acid and protein workflows, resuspension of cell pellets, and preparation of microbial culture media and isotonic solutions for handling cells such as E. coli.

  • 1M Sodium chloride

  • Buffer and Media Preparation: Stock for adjusting ionic strength and osmolarity in PBS, TBS, and culture media using 1M Sodium Chloride.

  • Ion-Exchange Chromatography: Generates salt gradients and elutes bound proteins; 1M Sodium Chloride is diluted to desired molarity.

  • Protein Stabilization and Solubility: Tunes ionic strength to reduce nonspecific interactions and prevent aggregation in protein assays.

  • Nucleic Acid Workflows: Used in DNA/RNA precipitation, washes, and to prepare SSC/hybridization buffers from a 1M Sodium Chloride stock.

  • Cell Culture and Microbiology: Sterile isotonic washes and serial dilutions for bacterial cultures such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.

  • Immunoassays (ELISA/Western Blot): Prepares PBS/TBS and TBST wash buffers by diluting 1M Sodium Chloride to target salt concentrations.

  • Enzyme Assays: Adjusts ionic strength to optimize enzyme activity and minimize background binding.

  • General Sample Dilution: Source for making normal saline–like solutions and conductivity controls from a sterile 1M Sodium Chloride stock.
