This aqueous solution of polyethylene glycol 8000 and sodium chloride is prepared for PEG/NaCl-mediated precipitation and concentration workflows, including isolation of filamentous bacteriophages from E. coli culture supernatants and recovery of nucleic acids from clarified samples. It is supplied ready to use in common laboratory protocols that employ PEG and salt to promote macromolecular aggregation and precipitation.

Each lot is tested and found negative for detectable DNase and RNase activity to support use in nucleic acid handling. Store at 2–8 °C; mix thoroughly before use. Avoid contamination by using clean, nuclease-free labware and aseptic technique.

  • 20% Polyethylene Glycol 8000
  • 2.5M Sodium Chloride
  • Bacteriophage Precipitation and Concentration: Uses 20% Polyethylene Glycol 8000, 2.5M Sodium Chloride to precipitate M13, λ, and T4 phage from Escherichia coli lysates for downstream DNA prep or titering.

  • Phage Display Workflows: Enriches M13 phage particles during biopanning and amplification cycles using 20% Polyethylene Glycol 8000, 2.5M Sodium Chloride.

  • Viral Particle Concentration: Concentrates enveloped and non-enveloped viruses (e.g., AAV, lentivirus) from culture supernatants via PEG/NaCl precipitation.

  • Large DNA/Phagemid Enrichment: Selectively precipitates high–molecular-weight DNA, BACs, and phagemids using PEG 8000 with high-salt conditions.

  • Extracellular Vesicle (EV)/Exosome Enrichment: Facilitates PEG-based precipitation of EVs from biofluids or conditioned media.

  • Macromolecular Crowding in Enzymatic Workflows: Provides crowding and ionic strength to enhance ligations, assemblies, and nucleic acid complex formation.

  • Protein Crystallization Screens: Serves as a high–molecular-weight PEG precipitant with NaCl for initial crystallization trials.
