2.5 M Sodium Chloride, 20% PEG Solution, Non-Sterile is a high-salt, polyethylene glycol reagent used in PEG/NaCl precipitation workflows for bacteriophages, plasmid DNA, and other macromolecules. It is suitable for concentrating phage particles from lysates (e.g., from E. coli) and for crowding-induced precipitation or phase separation steps in molecular biology protocols.

The solution is supplied non-sterile and is intended for downstream processes that include user-defined sterilization where required. Due to viscosity and potential salt or polymer crystallization upon cooling, mix thoroughly before use and equilibrate to the desired working temperature. Avoid applications requiring low ionic strength.

  • 2.5M Sodium Chloride
  • 20% Polyethylene Glycol 8000
  • Bacteriophage Precipitation and Concentration: PEG/NaCl mixture used to precipitate and concentrate phages from lysates and culture supernatants for downstream titration or DNA prep.

  • Viral Particle Concentration: Employed to enrich enveloped and non-enveloped viral vectors from cell culture supernatants prior to purification or infectivity assays.

  • Phage Display Workflows: Utilized to recover and concentrate phagemid particles after amplification, facilitating biopanning and sequencing steps.

  • Nucleic Acid Precipitation: Applied to selectively precipitate high–molecular-weight DNA/RNA and phage DNA, improving yield before cloning or library construction.

  • Protein Crystallization Screens: Serves as a precipitant/crowding solution (PEG 8000 with high ionic strength) in initial and optimization screens for macromolecular crystallography.

  • Macromolecular Crowding in Biochemistry: Provides defined osmotic and ionic conditions to promote complex formation, phase separation, or aggregation studies in vitro.
