0.01 M phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) with 0.02% Tween-80 is an isotonic, pH-stabilized saline buffer containing a nonionic surfactant for gentle washing and suspension of cells and proteins.

Used for washing steps in ELISA, Western blotting, immunostaining, and flow cytometry, and for handling bacterial cultures such as E. coli and mammalian cells, where the surfactant helps reduce nonspecific adsorption and improve surface wetting.

  • 0.85% Sodium Chloride
  • 0.12% Sodium Phosphate Dibasic
  • 0.022% Sodium Phosphate Monobasic
  • 0.02% Tween-80
  • ELISA and Western Blot Washing: Reduces nonspecific binding during plate and membrane washes to improve signal-to-noise.

  • Immunohistochemistry/Immunofluorescence: Gentle wash/permeabilization to minimize background while preserving antigenicity.

  • Flow Cytometry: Staining and wash buffer to limit cell aggregation and nonspecific antibody binding.

  • Blocking and Probe Dilutions: Diluent for antibodies and probes to stabilize proteins and reduce off-target interactions.

  • Protein Blot Processing: Washes between incubation steps and gentle membrane handling in Western workflows.

  • Cell Culture Rinsing: Isotonic wash for cells and tissues to remove serum or residual reagents without lysing cells.

  • Microbial Cell Handling: Washing/resuspension of Escherichia coli or Staphylococcus aureus; Tween-80 helps limit clumping in mycobacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

  • Microscopy Slide Rinses: Consistent pH and surfactant-assisted removal of unbound stains from slides and coverslips.

  • Bead- and Plate-Based Assays: Wash buffer for immunoprecipitation, pull-downs, and magnetic bead workflows to reduce nonspecific adsorption.

  • Nucleic Acid Workflows: Wash steps in DNA/RNA probe hybridization to decrease background binding without disrupting targets.

  • pH: 7.30 ± 0.10
