0.01 M Phosphate Buffered Saline (PBS) with 0.02% Tween-80 (polysorbate 80) is an isotonic, phosphate-based salt buffer containing a nonionic surfactant. This formulation is prepared for routine laboratory use where buffered saline with mild detergent is required.

Suitable for washing steps, sample dilution, and handling procedures in applications such as ELISA, Western blotting, and general microbiology workflows, including work with Escherichia coli.

  • 0.850% Sodium Chloride
  • 0.120% Sodium Phosphate Dibasic
  • 0.022% Sodium Phosphate Monobasic
  • 0.020% Tween-80
  • ELISA Plate Washing: Employed as a wash buffer to minimize nonspecific binding and background during plate-based immunoassays.

  • Western Blotting: Used for membrane wash steps between antibody incubations to reduce background and improve signal specificity.

  • Immunohistochemistry/Immunocytochemistry: Applied in wash steps during antibody staining to decrease nonspecific interactions without disrupting epitopes.

  • Flow Cytometry: Serves as a cell wash buffer to limit nonspecific antibody binding and reduce cell clumping before acquisition.

  • Bead‑Based Immunoassays: Used for washing and suspending magnetic or polystyrene beads to lower nonspecific adsorption.

  • General Cell and Tissue Washing: Provides isotonic rinsing of cells and tissues while the surfactant helps remove loosely associated proteins and lipids.

  • Antibody and Reagent Dilution: Functions as a diluent for antibodies and proteins where mild surfactant reduces aggregation and surface sticking.

  • Microbial Suspension and Washing: Used to disperse clump‑prone cells and wash bacterial pellets (e.g., Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa).

  • Specimen Elution (Research Use): Utilized to elute swabs and samples, aiding recovery of analytes from collection materials.

  • Surface and Plasticware Conditioning: Rinses assay surfaces to reduce protein adsorption and improve reproducibility in binding assays.

  • pH: 7.30 ± 0.10
