1X Phosphate-Buffered Saline (PBS), pH 7.4, with 185 mM sodium chloride is a buffered salt solution for routine laboratory workflows, including washing cells and tissues, preparing sample dilutions, and resuspending cell pellets such as E. coli. The physiological pH supports handling of proteins, antibodies, and cells, and the buffer is suitable for rinsing procedures in workflows like immunostaining and ELISA.

  • 185mM Sodium Chloride
  • 2.7mM Potassium Chloride
  • 4.3mM Sodium Phosphate
  • 1.4mM Potassium Phosphate
  • Cell Washing and Resuspension: Rinses adherent and suspension cells at pH 7.4 to remove serum, enzymes, and media components.

  • Sample Dilution and Reagent Preparation: Provides a buffered saline matrix for diluting antibodies, proteins, and small molecules.

  • ELISA and Immunoassays: Used as a wash buffer and antibody diluent to reduce nonspecific binding and maintain stable pH.

  • Flow Cytometry: Serves as a staining and wash buffer to maintain cell integrity during labeling and analysis.

  • Immunofluorescence/IHC: Employed for washing and antibody dilution in tissue and cell staining workflows.

  • Western Blotting: Used for membrane washing and antibody dilution during blot detection steps.

  • Microbiology: Applied as a diluent and rinse for serial dilutions, plating, and pellet resuspension of Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

  • Tissue Handling and Transport: Maintains physiological pH during tissue rinsing and short-term transport.

  • Protein Workflows: Buffer for sample handling, dialysis exchanges, and column equilibration when phosphate compatibility is required.

  • Nucleic Acid Handling: Used for rinsing and dilution of DNA/RNA and cells when phosphate is compatible with downstream enzymes.

  • pH: 7.40 ± 0.04
