1X PBS with 0.1% Tween 80 is an isotonic phosphate-buffered saline containing a nonionic surfactant (polysorbate 80) for routine laboratory workflows. The addition of 0.1% Tween 80 provides gentle wetting and dispersion characteristics suitable for washing steps and reagent handling.

This buffer is suitable for cell and tissue rinsing, preparation and dilution of antibodies and proteins, and wash steps in immunoassays such as ELISA, Western blotting, immunocytochemistry, and flow cytometry, where a buffered saline with a nonionic surfactant is required to reduce nonspecific interactions.

  • 137.0mM Sodium Chloride
  • 4.3mM Sodium Phosphate Dibasic
  • 2.7mM Potassium Chloride
  • 1.4mM Potassium Phosphate Monobasic
  • 0.1% Tween 80
  • ELISA Wash Buffer: Reduces nonspecific binding during plate washing for reliable signal detection.

  • Western Blot Washing: Removes unbound antibodies from membranes while preserving protein-antibody interactions.

  • Immunofluorescence/Immunohistochemistry (IHC): Gentle washing/permeabilization to minimize background in antibody staining workflows.

  • Flow Cytometry Staining Wash: Maintains isotonic conditions and decreases cell clumping during wash steps.

  • General Cell Culture Wash: Isotonic rinsing of cells and tissues without disrupting cell viability or morphology.

  • Antibody/Sample Dilution: Provides a stable, isotonic matrix that lowers nonspecific interactions in immunoassays.

  • Immunoprecipitation Wash: Aids in removal of nonspecific binders from bead-bound complexes.

  • Plate-Based Assays (e.g., blocking and wash steps): Supports consistent wash cycles to reduce background across high-throughput assays.

  • Microbial Recovery and Surface Rinse: Used to collect and elute organisms like Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Listeria monocytogenes from swabs or surfaces.

  • Diagnostic Kit Wash Steps: Standardized wash buffer for lateral flow and bead-based immunoassays to enhance specificity.
