1X Phosphate-Buffered Saline (PBS) with 0.05% sodium azide is an isotonic, phosphate-based buffer that maintains physiological pH and ionic strength for routine washing, dilution, and sample preparation in cell and tissue workflows.

The inclusion of 0.05% sodium azide provides bacteriostatic preservation during storage and use. Sodium azide inhibits heme-containing enzymes such as horseradish peroxidase; therefore, this buffer is not suitable for HRP-based applications.

Ready to use as a 1X working solution.

  • 135.0mM Sodium Chloride
  • 2.7mM Potassium Chloride
  • 4.3mM Disodium Phosphate
  • 1.4mM Monopotassium Phosphate. 0.05% Sodium Azide
  • Cell and Tissue Washing: Isotonic rinse for cells and tissues during handling, staining, and imaging.

  • Immunofluorescence and IHC: Wash and antibody dilution buffer (non-HRP conjugates) for consistent pH and reduced background.

  • Flow Cytometry: Wash/stain buffer; sodium azide helps prevent receptor capping and internalization during labeling.

  • ELISA and Western Blot: Plate/membrane washing and reagent dilution where HRP inhibition is not a concern.

  • Sample and Reagent Dilution: Maintains physiological osmolarity and pH for proteins, beads, and cells.

  • Short-term Reagent Storage: Preserves antibodies, proteins, and magnetic beads at 2–8°C with antimicrobial protection.

  • Instrument and Surface Rinse: Reduces microbial contamination, inhibiting common contaminants such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.

  • Microscopy Workflows: Compatible wash buffer for slide preparation, mounting steps, and gentle sample handling.
