M9 Minimal Salts Broth without Glucose and Ammonium Chloride is a chemically defined basal medium for cultivation of E. coli and other bacteria under controlled nutrient conditions. The buffered salt system maintains pH during incubation, sodium chloride contributes to osmotic balance, thiamine supplies an essential vitamin, and magnesium and calcium provide divalent cations required for cellular function. The absence of glucose and ammonium chloride allows users to supply defined carbon and nitrogen sources appropriate to the experimental design, including isotopically labeled substrates or alternative nutrients.
