MDAG-1 Media is a defined, phosphate-buffered medium for cultivation and metabolic screening of enteric bacteria such as E. coli. Glucose (0.1%) provides a primary carbon source, while ammonium supplies inorganic nitrogen. Aspartate supports additional carbon and nitrogen input, and a balanced amino acid supplement (200 µg/mL) is provided minus cysteine and tyrosine to enable auxotrophy-based evaluation of sulfur- and aromatic amino acid biosynthesis. Magnesium, sulfate, and trace metals furnish essential ions and cofactors for enzymatic activity.
