Mueller Hinton Agar Plates are sterile, ready-to-use culture media prepared for routine cultivation of nonfastidious bacteria and for standardized antimicrobial susceptibility testing by disk diffusion methods. The medium supports the growth of organisms such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, providing a uniform surface suitable for applying antibiotic disks and measuring inhibition zone diameters under defined conditions.

Plates are poured to a consistent depth appropriate for disk diffusion workflows and general microbiological use. Recommended handling includes aseptic technique, streaking or lawn inoculation as required by the test method, and incubation according to laboratory protocols. Store at 2–8 °C in the original packaging, protected from light and dehydration; do not freeze. Use before the indicated expiration date.

  • Mueller Hinton Agar
  • Kirby-Bauer Disk Diffusion Testing: Standardized antimicrobial susceptibility testing of rapidly growing aerobic bacteria (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococcus faecalis).

  • MIC Determination (Etest/Gradient Diffusion): Establishes minimum inhibitory concentrations for antibiotics using gradient strips on Mueller Hinton Agar.

  • Antibiotic Potency and QC Assays: Assesses antibiotic activity and verifies disk potencies and lot performance under CLSI guidelines.

  • Cultivation of Nonfastidious Bacteria: Supports growth of nonfastidious organisms for downstream susceptibility testing and research.

  • MRSA/MSSA and Resistance Screening: Used with cefoxitin/oxacillin disks to detect mecA-mediated resistance in Staphylococcus aureus and related species.

  • Clinical and Public Health Surveillance: Generates standardized AST data for antibiograms and resistance trend monitoring.

  • Teaching and Training: Demonstrates principles of AST and zone measurement in academic and clinical laboratories.
