Mueller Hinton Agar Plates are pre-poured agar media intended for the cultivation of nonfastidious bacteria and for antimicrobial susceptibility testing by disk diffusion methods. This medium is widely used for standardized testing protocols and supports growth of organisms such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Plates are supplied ready-to-use in sterile Petri dishes. Store at 2–8 °C away from light and use under aseptic conditions.

  • Mueller Hinton Agar
  • Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (Kirby–Bauer Disk Diffusion): Standard medium for disk diffusion AST of nonfastidious aerobic bacteria; commonly used with QC strains like Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

  • Gradient Diffusion MIC Testing (Etest/Strips): Used to determine minimum inhibitory concentrations on plates for clinical isolates, including E. coli, S. aureus, and P. aeruginosa.

  • AST of Fastidious Organisms with Supplements: Employed as Mueller Hinton with 5% sheep blood for Streptococcus pneumoniae and as Haemophilus Test Medium (Mueller Hinton–based) for Haemophilus influenzae.

  • Antibiotic Potency and Quality Control Assays: Supports potency testing and lot verification of antibiotic disks and reagents using reference strains (e.g., E. coli ATCC 25922, S. aureus ATCC 25923).

  • Cultivation of Nonfastidious Bacteria: General-purpose growth medium for routine isolation and maintenance of aerobic and facultative organisms such as E. coli and S. aureus.

  • Clinical Microbiology Workflow: Routine hospital and reference lab AST workflows for organism identification-confirmed isolates and result reporting per CLSI/EUCAST.

  • Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance and Research: Standardized platform to track resistance trends and evaluate new or investigational antimicrobials.

  • Education and Training: Teaching Kirby–Bauer methodology, zone measurement, and interpretive criteria in academic and clinical training labs.
