Isopropyl β-D-1-thiogalactopyranoside (IPTG), Animal-Free, is a non-metabolizable lactose analog used to induce gene expression from lac-derived promoters in E. coli. It binds the LacI repressor to enable transcriptional activation in systems such as lac, tac, and T7/lac. IPTG is also used in blue-white screening with X-Gal to induce lacZ α-complementation in E. coli. The animal-free manufacturing process avoids the use of animal-derived raw materials.

Typical working concentrations range from 0.1 mM to 1 mM for induction in liquid culture or on agar plates. Stock solutions are commonly prepared in water, sterile-filtered, and stored frozen. The solid is water-soluble and can be handled under standard laboratory conditions.

  • Isopropyl β-D-1-thiogalactopyranoside(IPTG)
  • Animal-Free
  • Recombinant Protein Expression (lac/T7-lac Systems): Induces lac-, tac-, trc-, and T7-lac–controlled expression in Escherichia coli.

  • Blue-White Screening: Enables α-complementation on X-gal/IPTG plates for clone selection in Escherichia coli.

  • β-Galactosidase (lacZ) Reporter Assays: Triggers lacZ expression for Miller assays in Escherichia coli.

  • Bacterial Two-Hybrid/One-Hybrid Systems: Provides inducible control of interaction reporter genes under lac promoters.

  • Phage Display Workflows: Induces lac-controlled coat protein/display element expression in Escherichia coli.

  • Promoter Induction Profiling: Characterizes induction kinetics and dose–response of lac-based constructs in Escherichia coli.

  • Functional Genetics Under lac Control: Regulates plasmid or chromosomal genes driven by lac-derived promoters in Escherichia coli.
