814 GC Medium Agar Plates are a hemoglobin- and enrichment-supplemented GC formulation providing a nutrient-rich, phosphate-buffered agar surface suitable for fastidious organisms requiring hemin and additional growth factors. The medium is prepared on a peptone base with balanced salts and starch, solidified with agar, and supplemented with bovine hemoglobin and IsoVitalex enrichment.

  • 1.5% Peptone
  • 0.1% Corn Starch
  • 0.4% Dipotassium Phosphate
  • 0.1% Monopotassium Phosphate
  • 0.5% Sodium Chloride
  • 1.5% Agar
  • 1.0% Bovine Hemoglobin
  • 1.0% IsoVitalex Enrichment
  • Isolation and Cultivation: Supports robust growth of Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Neisseria meningitidis, Haemophilus influenzae, and Moraxella catarrhalis from clinical samples.

  • Nonselective Recovery: Used as a rich, nonselective base to recover fastidious organisms prior to or after selective media (e.g., post–Thayer–Martin subculture) for purity checks.

  • Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing: Suitable for MIC/Etest and disk diffusion of pathogenic Neisseria per CLSI guidance.

  • Strain Maintenance: Maintains laboratory stocks of fastidious Neisseria spp. for short- to medium-term use.

  • Colony-Based ID: Enables oxidase testing, colony morphology assessment, and preparation for carbohydrate utilization/identification assays.

  • Molecular Prep: Grows biomass for genomic DNA/RNA/protein extraction from fastidious Neisseria cultures.

  • Vaccine and Virulence Research: Cultivation platform for pathogenesis studies of Neisseria and related fastidious organisms.

  • Genetic Competence Studies: Used for transformation assays and pili/phase-variation research in Neisseria.

  • Clinical Diagnostics Workflow: Primary plating or secondary subculture to obtain isolated colonies for confirmatory testing.

  • CO2 Incubation/QC: Performance checks and routine cultivation of CO2-requiring fastidious bacteria.
