0.1 M Citric Acid Solution is a standardized aqueous acid solution commonly used for pH adjustment, buffer system preparation with conjugate base components, and as a titrant or reference in acid–base and complexometric assays. Its defined molarity facilitates reproducible preparation of citrate-based buffers for biochemical workflows and instrument calibration routines.

This solution is suitable for cleaning and passivation steps that require mild acidity and chelation, for conditioning chromatographic media, and for maintaining controlled acidic conditions in sample processing. Store tightly closed to minimize CO₂ absorption and contamination, and handle using appropriate laboratory safety practices.

  • pH Adjustment and Buffer Preparation: Used to prepare citrate buffers by titration to target pH for biochemical and molecular biology workflows.

  • Anion Exchange Chromatography: Employed as a citrate buffer for protein binding and elution optimization under acidic conditions.

  • HPLC/UPLC Mobile Phase Modifier: Utilized (after dilution) as an acidic modifier and chelating agent to improve peak shape and reproducibility.

  • Protein Stabilization: Chelates trace metals to reduce metal-catalyzed oxidation and aggregation during storage or purification.

  • Microbial Media Acidification: Adjusts culture media pH for growth or selection of acid-tolerant microbes such as Lactobacillus and Acetobacter.

  • Decalcification/Descaling: Removes mineral deposits and phosphate/carbonate precipitates from labware and systems.
