Storage

Aqueous carboxymethyl cellulose sodium salt solution formulated for laboratory applications that require controlled viscosity and reduced molecular diffusion. Typical uses include semi-solid overlays for bacteriophage plaque assays on bacterial lawns such as Escherichia coli, and as a suspension medium for cells, particulates, or reagents in microbiology and cell culture workflows.

  • 6.0% Carboxymethyl Cellulose
  • Viral and Bacteriophage Plaque Assays: 6.0% Carboxymethyl Cellulose serves as a sterile viscous overlay to limit diffusion and enable discrete plaque formation on cell or bacterial lawns.

  • Bacteriophage Assays on Escherichia coli: Used as an overlay medium to visualize phage plaques on Escherichia coli and other bacterial hosts.

  • Cellulase Activity Assays (CMCase): Provides a soluble cellulose substrate for endo-β-1,4-glucanase assays to quantify cellulolytic enzyme activity.

  • Viscosity Modifier for Cell Culture: Increases medium viscosity to reduce shear stress and cell settling in suspension cultures and bioreactors.

  • Particle and Bead Suspension: Minimizes sedimentation of magnetic or latex beads during mixing, imaging, and flow cytometry workflows.

  • Microscopy and Imaging: Slows convection in wet mounts to stabilize specimens for live-cell and motility imaging.

  • Rheology and Viscosity Standards: Used as a reference fluid for instrument calibration and method development.

  • Drug Diffusion and Release Studies: Forms a viscous matrix to model mucosal/ocular environments and assess diffusion kinetics.
