Brain Heart Infusion Broth is a nutrient-rich liquid medium for the cultivation and maintenance of a broad range of bacteria, yeasts, and molds, including fastidious organisms. It is used for general culture, enrichment, and sterility testing across clinical, food, water, and environmental applications, and can be supplemented with blood, carbohydrates, or antimicrobial agents for specific purposes. Representative organisms include Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Enterococcus spp., and Candida spp.

  • Brain Heart Infusion Broth
  • Cultivation of Fastidious Bacteria: Supports robust growth of organisms such as Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, Enterococcus, Listeria, and Neisseria.

  • Clinical Sample Enrichment: Pre-enrichment of low-abundance or stressed pathogens from patient specimens prior to isolation.

  • Blood Culture Applications: Used as a base medium for detecting bacteremia and septicemia.

  • Sterility Testing: Detection of microbial contamination in pharmaceuticals, biologics, and cell culture processes.

  • Food and Beverage Microbiology: Enrichment and recovery of stressed bacteria from foods, beverages, and environmental swabs.

  • Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing: Broth-based MIC/MBC testing for fastidious organisms (e.g., Streptococcus, Enterococcus).

  • Recovery of Injured Cells: Resuscitation of disinfectant- or heat-injured bacteria for downstream analysis.

  • Yeast and Mold Cultivation: Growth of fungi such as yeasts for clinical or industrial microbiology workflows.

  • Biofilm Studies: Promotion of biofilm formation in rich conditions for organisms like Staphylococcus and Enterococcus.

  • General Laboratory Culture: Routine propagation and maintenance of diverse aerobic and anaerobic bacteria.
