Brain Heart Infusion Broth is a nutrient-rich liquid medium for the cultivation and maintenance of a wide variety of bacteria and fungi. It is used for the growth of organisms such as Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, Enterococcus, and Streptococcus pneumoniae, and supports many Gram-negative bacteria and yeasts including Candida spp. Typical applications include general cultivation, enrichment of low-biomass samples, sterility testing, and use as a base broth for blood culture and antimicrobial susceptibility workflows.

  • Brain Heart Infusion Broth
  • Cultivation of Fastidious Organisms: Supports robust growth of demanding bacteria such as Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, Enterococcus, Neisseria, Haemophilus, and Listeria, as well as yeasts like Candida.

  • Clinical Specimen Enrichment: Enriches low-titer pathogens from blood, cerebrospinal fluid, and other clinical samples for downstream identification.

  • Sterility Testing and QC: Used as a general-purpose growth medium for detection of microbial contamination in pharmaceuticals, biologics, and process controls.

  • Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing: Employed for broth-based MIC and growth-inhibition assays where fastidious organisms require rich media.

  • Recovery of Stressed or Injured Cells: Facilitates resuscitation of sublethally damaged microorganisms from disinfection, heat, or freezing.

  • Food and Beverage Microbiology: Enrichment of pathogens and indicator organisms from foods, dairy, and environmental swabs.

  • Fungal and Yeast Culture: Supports growth of yeasts and molds, including Candida spp., for isolation and characterization.

  • Aerobic and Anaerobic Cultivation: Suitable base for both oxygenated and anaerobic cultures with appropriate supplements.

  • Maintenance and Propagation of Strains: Routine subculture and preparation of seed stocks for research and production workflows.

  • General Microbial Enumeration: Growth medium for counting and biomass production in research and industrial applications.
