Brucella Agar Plates with 5% Sheep’s Blood is an enriched agar medium for the cultivation of fastidious organisms including Brucella spp and a broad range of anaerobic and microaerophilic bacteria. The addition of 5% defibrinated sheep’s blood supplies growth factors and permits observation of hemolytic reactions.

These plates are used in clinical and research microbiology for isolation and maintenance of Brucella and other demanding organisms from appropriate specimens, and for general-purpose subculture under suitable laboratory conditions.

  • 1.00% Tryptone
  • 1.00% Proteose Peptone
  • 0.10% Dextrose
  • 0.20% Yeast Extract
  • 0.50% Sodium Chloride
  • 0.01% Sodium Bisulfite
  • 1.50% Agar
  • 5.00% Defibrinated Sheep's Blood
  • Anaerobic Bacterial Isolation and Cultivation: Supports robust growth of fastidious anaerobes such as Bacteroides, Prevotella, Fusobacterium, and Clostridium using a nutrient-rich base and 5% sheep’s blood.

  • Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (Anaerobes): Used as Brucella Blood Agar (BBA) for agar dilution or gradient strip testing per CLSI for clinically relevant anaerobes.

  • Isolation of Brucella spp.: Formulated to support recovery and cultivation of Brucella species from clinical and veterinary specimens.

  • Microaerophilic Cultivation: Facilitates growth of microaerophiles like Campylobacter spp. under appropriate atmospheric conditions.

  • Subculture from Blood Cultures: Enables recovery of fastidious organisms from positive blood culture bottles for definitive isolation.

  • Hemolysis and Colony Morphology Assessment: 5% sheep’s blood allows visualization of hemolytic patterns and differential colony characteristics.

  • Maintenance of Clinical Anaerobe Stocks: Suitable for routine propagation and preservation workflows for fastidious anaerobic isolates.

  • PRAS Workflows: Compatible with pre-reduced, anaerobically sterilized handling to optimize recovery of oxygen-sensitive species.
