Ammonium sulfate is an inorganic salt solution that supplies ammonium and sulfate ions for laboratory applications. It is used to modulate ionic strength in biochemical workflows and to support defined chemical environments in research settings.

Common applications include salt fractionation and precipitation of proteins and enzymes, stabilization of macromolecules during handling, and adjustment of ionic strength in buffer systems. It is also used as a nitrogen source in microbial culture work with organisms such as E. coli and yeast.

The solution is miscible with water and compatible with standard laboratory buffers (e.g., phosphate, Tris) and downstream analytical techniques such as spectrophotometry. Store at ambient laboratory conditions recommended for inorganic salt solutions unless otherwise specified by internal SOPs.

  • Protein Precipitation and Fractionation: Perform ammonium sulfate cuts to concentrate and fractionate proteins using 25% Ammonium Sulfate.

  • Antibody Precipitation: Enrich and isolate immunoglobulins from serum or culture supernatants via salting-out with 25% Ammonium Sulfate.

  • Sample Clarification: Remove unwanted proteins and concentrate targets prior to downstream purification by adding 25% Ammonium Sulfate.

  • Hydrophobic Interaction Chromatography (HIC): Adjust ionic strength to promote binding and control elution profiles using 25% Ammonium Sulfate.

  • Protein Crystallization: Employed as a common precipitant in crystallization screens and optimization workflows with 25% Ammonium Sulfate.

  • Enzyme Stabilization: Maintain enzyme stability and activity during handling or storage by tuning ionic strength with 25% Ammonium Sulfate.

  • Concentration of Secreted Proteins: Precipitate and concentrate extracellular proteins from culture media using 25% Ammonium Sulfate.
