Fluid Thioglycollate Medium is a reducing broth used for the cultivation and detection of aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms in clinical, industrial, and pharmaceutical samples, including sterility testing in accordance with pharmacopeial methods. An oxygen gradient supports the recovery of obligate anaerobes, facultative anaerobes, microaerophiles, and aerobes, and an oxidation-reduction indicator enables visual assessment of medium oxygenation.

This medium is used to detect microorganisms such as Clostridium, Bacteroides, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Pseudomonas, and Bacillus from diverse specimen types, including biological products, medical devices, and environmental samples.

  • 2.98% Fluid Thioglycollate Medium
  • Sterility Testing (USP/EP/JP): 2.98% Fluid Thioglycollate Medium used for sterility testing of pharmaceuticals, biologics, and medical devices by detecting aerobic and anaerobic organisms.

  • Cultivation of Anaerobes and Facultative Bacteria: Enrichment and recovery of anaerobes (e.g., Clostridium sporogenes, Clostridium perfringens) and facultative organisms from diverse sample types.

  • Environmental Monitoring in Aseptic Manufacturing: Recovery broth for swabs, contact plate rinses, and surface samples to detect low-level contamination.

  • Growth Promotion Testing (GPT): Media QC using compendial strains such as Clostridium sporogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus subtilis, and Escherichia coli.

  • Aseptic Process Validation (Media Fills): Recovery medium for process simulations to verify contamination control in fill-finish operations.

  • Testing of Parenterals and Ophthalmics: Direct inoculation or membrane filtration sterility tests for injectables and sterile solutions.

  • Bioburden and Raw Material Assessment: Enrichment of microorganisms from non-sterile products and intermediates prior to enumeration or identification.

  • Recovery of Stressed/Low-Level Microbes: Enhances detection of sublethally injured organisms after filtration, sanitization, or processing.

  • Oxygen Gradient Studies: Supports aerobic, microaerophilic, and anaerobic growth with resazurin indicator to visualize redox/oxygen gradients.

  • Pre-Enrichment/Transport for Anaerobic Cultures: Temporary holding and enrichment of anaerobes prior to isolation and plating.
