Tryptic Soy Broth is a general-purpose, nonselective liquid medium for cultivation and maintenance of a wide range of aerobic and facultative microorganisms, including clinical, industrial, and environmental isolates. It is used for microbial enrichment, sterility testing, and routine cultivation of organisms such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus subtilis.

The formulation combines enzymatic digests of casein and soybean meal with sodium chloride, dextrose, and phosphate buffer, providing amino acids, peptides, carbohydrates, and controlled osmotic and buffering conditions appropriate for general microbial growth in laboratory workflows.

  • 1.7% Tryptone
  • 0.3% Soytone
  • 0.5% Sodium Chloride
  • 0.25% Cerelose Anhydrous Dextrose (Glucose)
  • 0.25% Dipotassium Phosphate
  • General Bacterial Cultivation: Broad-spectrum growth medium for routine cultivation and enrichment of aerobic and facultative anaerobic bacteria.

  • Sterility Testing (USP/EP/JP): Standard broth for sterility tests and growth promotion testing of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and media.

  • Environmental Monitoring/Bioburden: Enrichment of organisms from cleanroom swabs, air samples, and water systems before enumeration or identification.

  • Clinical/Diagnostic Enrichment: Pre-enrichment of specimens and as a base for blood culture systems to recover stressed or low-level bacteria.

  • Food and Beverage Microbiology: Pre-enrichment/enrichment of pathogens and spoilage organisms from foods, ingredients, and in-process samples.

  • Seed Cultures and Upstream Processing: Preparation of starter inocula for fermentation, recombinant strain propagation, and bioproduction workflows.

  • Antibiotic/Disinfectant Efficacy Testing: Growth controls, neutralizer validation, and time-kill or challenge studies.

  • Strain Maintenance: Short-term subculture and as a base for cryostocks when supplemented (e.g., glycerol).

  • Microbial Enumeration: Enrichment preceding MPN, membrane filtration recovery, or plate counts from low-biomass samples.

  • QC with Standard Strains: Robust growth of Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococcus faecalis, Bacillus subtilis, and Listeria monocytogenes for control testing.
