This sterile hypotonic saline solution is intended for cell and tissue handling, dilution, and general laboratory procedures. It is suitable for washing cell pellets, preparing suspensions, and adjusting osmotic conditions in microbiology and cell culture workflows.

Applications include rinsing and resuspending microbial or mammalian cells, serving as a diluent for reagents and standards in analytical protocols, and performing osmotic stress or equilibration steps with organisms such as E. coli.

  • 0.45% Sodium Chloride

  • Cell and Tissue Rinsing: Gentle wash for cells and tissues when reduced ionic strength is desired to minimize osmotic stress.

  • Hypotonic Cell Lysis: Induces swelling and lysis of mammalian cells and erythrocytes for nuclei and cytosolic fraction preparation.

  • Sample and Reagent Dilution: Sterile diluent for buffers, standards, and samples requiring low ionic strength.

  • Dialysis and Desalting: Equilibration and wash solution for membranes and resins where lower ionic strength improves salt removal.

  • Osmotic Stress Studies: Controlled hypotonic medium for assessing cell volume regulation and membrane permeability.
