1 M Potassium Chloride Solution is an aqueous laboratory reagent that supplies defined potassium and chloride ions for applications requiring controlled ionic strength.

Common uses include serving as the electrolyte or filling solution for Ag/AgCl reference electrodes and salt bridges, calibration and verification of ion-selective electrodes and conductivity meters, preparation of buffers and media with specified K+ and Cl− levels, and inclusion in electrophysiology and osmotic stress experiments.

Supplied ready to use for general laboratory procedures where a standardized potassium chloride solution is required.

  • 1M Potassium Chloride Solution

  • Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR): Component of PCR buffers to optimize primer annealing and polymerase activity by adjusting ionic strength.

  • DNA/RNA Purification: Precipitates SDS–protein complexes in lysates to improve nucleic acid recovery and adjusts ionic strength during alcohol precipitations.

  • Ion Exchange Chromatography: Controls ionic strength and enables salt gradients for protein binding and elution.

  • Electrophysiology and Electrodes: Used to fill Ag/AgCl reference electrodes and agar bridges, and to prepare intracellular/pipette solutions.

  • Buffer and Media Preparation: Adjusts ionic strength and osmolarity in biological buffers and wash solutions for cells and microbes such as Escherichia coli.

  • Conductivity Calibration: Diluted to prepare KCl standards for conductivity meter calibration and verification.

  • Conductivity: 107-122mS/cm
