Sodium hydroxide, Research Grade, is a ready-to-use alkaline solution for laboratory applications including pH adjustment, neutralization of acids, base-catalyzed reactions, and sample preparation requiring a defined strong base.

Applications include buffer preparation, titrimetric standardization of acidic solutions, cleaning and regeneration of ion-exchange media, and general laboratory workflows. Store tightly closed at ambient temperature; protect from moisture and carbon dioxide. Corrosive; handle with appropriate personal protective equipment and follow institutional safety guidelines.

  • 0.5M Sodium Hydroxide
  • pH Adjustment and Titration: Used to adjust pH in buffers and media and as a titrant for standard acid-base titrations.

  • Alkaline Lysis for Plasmid Prep: Employed in plasmid DNA isolation workflows from E. coli to lyse cells and denature chromosomal DNA and proteins.

  • Chromatography System Cleaning (CIP): Applied to clean and regenerate chromatography columns and fluid paths by removing adsorbed proteins and lipids.

  • Membrane Stripping: Used to strip antibodies from Western blot membranes for reprobing.

  • Buffer and Media Preparation: Adjusts the pH of Tris, HEPES, and other laboratory buffers to target values.

  • Surface and Glassware Cleaning: Removes organic residues and helps reduce bioburden on labware and equipment.

  • Neutralization and Quenching: Neutralizes acidic solutions and quenches acid-catalyzed reactions.

  • Hydrolysis/Saponification: Facilitates base-catalyzed hydrolysis of esters and lipids in analytical and preparative workflows.

  • Nucleic Acid Denaturation: Denatures DNA/RNA for blotting and hybridization procedures.

  • Ion-Exchange Resin Regeneration: Restores anion exchange resin capacity by converting to hydroxide form.
