20% Glucose Solution is an aqueous solution of D-glucose (dextrose) at 20% w/v for convenient supplementation of culture media and buffers as a defined carbon source and osmolyte.

Applications include adjusting glucose concentration in microbial and cell culture media, preparing carbohydrate-containing broths, supplementing minimal media, feeding fermentation processes, and use as a reagent in biochemical assays requiring controlled glucose levels.

Add aseptically to sterile media or buffers to achieve the desired final glucose concentration; for example, adding 10 mL per 90 mL of medium yields 2% glucose (w/v). Suitable for use with media such as LB, M9, 2XYT, and agar formulations for cultivation of organisms including E. coli.

  • 20% Cerelose Anhydrous Dextrose (Glucose)
  • Microbial Culture Supplementation: Carbon source for aerobic and anaerobic growth of E. coli, Bacillus subtilis, and other bacteria; add to media to reach desired glucose concentration.

  • Minimal Media Preparation: Convenient sterile stock to supplement M9 or MOPS minimal media with defined glucose levels for controlled growth experiments.

  • Transformation Recovery (SOC/SOB): Added to SOC/SOB to enhance recovery and outgrowth of transformed E. coli cells.

  • Fermentation and Fed-Batch Feeds: Sterile carbon feed for microbial fermentations and fed-batch processes to control growth rate and productivity.

  • Yeast Culture (YPD/SD): Glucose source for YPD and defined synthetic drop-out (SD) media in Saccharomyces cerevisiae workflows.

  • Mammalian Cell Culture Adjustment: Used to adjust glucose in basal media (e.g., DMEM) and to restore glucose in long-term cultures.

  • Catabolite Repression Studies: Modulates cAMP-CRP pathways to repress lac/other catabolite-sensitive promoters in E. coli.

  • Growth Curves and Metabolic Assays: Establishes defined glucose levels for OD-based growth kinetics and glucose consumption/lactate production measurements.

  • Osmotic Support: Provides mild osmotic stabilization in select protocols (e.g., protoplast handling) where glucose is preferred.
