5 M Sodium Hydroxide, Endotoxin Tested, is a concentrated alkaline solution for laboratory and bioprocess workflows requiring a strong base. Typical applications include pH adjustment, neutralization, cleaning-in-place procedures, and column sanitation. The solution is tested for bacterial endotoxin using a Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) assay and is suitable for processes where control of endotoxin from Gram-negative bacteria such as E. coli is required.

Store tightly closed to minimize atmospheric CO₂ uptake; use compatible containers (e.g., HDPE or polypropylene). Avoid prolonged contact with glass. Corrosive; handle with appropriate PPE and follow institutional safety guidelines.

  • 5M Sodium Hydroxide
  • pH Adjustment of Buffers and Media: Used to raise and precisely control pH during buffer and cell culture media preparation.

  • Alkaline Lysis for Plasmid Prep: Employed to lyse Escherichia coli cells in standard plasmid DNA extraction workflows.

  • Chromatography Column Cleaning (CIP): Applied for cleaning and regeneration of ion-exchange and other chromatography resins.

  • Bioreactor and Process System Sanitization: Utilized for caustic cleaning of bioreactors, tanks, and fluid paths to reduce bioburden and endotoxins.

  • Membrane Cleaning (UF/TFF Systems): Used to remove fouling from ultrafiltration and tangential flow filtration membranes.

  • Endotoxin Inactivation on Equipment: Applied in depyrogenation rinses to inactivate and remove endotoxins from contact surfaces.

  • Fermentation pH Control: Used by automated control loops to maintain optimal culture pH during growth of organisms such as Escherichia coli or Bacillus subtilis.

  • Glassware and Labware Decontamination: Employed for alkaline cleaning to remove nucleases and organic residues.
